Guest rooms account for around 70% of a hotel’s total floor area. That is why guest rooms are the first place where hotel operators can save money.

Smart control of lighting and climate systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) makes it possible to use energy resources as efficiently as possible while delivering the highest level of comfort.

To this end, three levels of room temperature control are used:

• Room unoccupied — temperature setpoint 1;
• Room occupied, but the guest is away — temperature setpoint 2;
• Guest in the room — temperature setpoint 3.

In-room lighting control is available from several locations: for example, the lights in the hallway and bathroom can be switched off with a switch located next to the bed. When the guest leaves the room, a key-card switch automatically turns off all the lighting.

In addition, lighting control in common areas also contributes significantly to energy cost savings: illumination of the building facade, grounds and parking operates automatically, depending on outdoor light levels and the time of day. In transit areas with relatively low foot traffic (bathrooms, corridors, elevator lobbies), the lights are switched on by motion sensors.
