The automated building monitoring and control system must monitor the engineering systems not only at the level of the equipment itself, but at many other points as well, for example monitoring voltage parameters at all power distribution boards feeding medical equipment, to enable a timely response and prompt fault rectification.
The monitoring and control equipment itself must offer a high degree of reliability and fault tolerance to keep the engineering systems running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The BMS is also responsible for automatic switchover to standby equipment based on analysis of operating hours, for shedding non-essential loads, and for redistributing the load when the main power supply fails and the facility switches to backup power sources, as well as during emergencies.
